2 second goodbye linger (no tongue)

some might say friendly, but i've come undone.

rosie flores | 7.11 | elbo room : the rockabilly filly.

gene loves jezebel | 7.14 | cafe du nord : hee hee. gotcha. unlike the next group, isn't this place too big for them? they should be playing bart stations, right?

victoria williams w/mark olson + the original harmony ridge creek drippers | 7.20 | cafe du nord : i would have thought they'd fill a larger venue. her voice will play your heartstrings like a poignant little fiddle.

fishbone | 7.27 | pound : funk, ska, punk. i must admit, i stopped following these guys after in your face. would be nice to see what they're like now.

ramblin' jack elliott | 7.27 | noe valley ministry : used to hang with woody, then bob dylan, his name is more about his ability to talk your ear off (believe me, he chatted me up for an hour at the cactus) than his wandering lifestyle. an american icon.

david byrne | 7.30 | warfield : sold out the fillmore. on to the larger warfield. mr. jones's pants are falling down. aces high!

pernice brothers | 8.3 | BotH : if you are a fan of great pop music that will never make it to radio because it's too intelligent. once country or alt-country, there's almost no hint of country in them anymore. but god, they're good. thought i was blind. when she speaks it's like a mime. it's hard to read a simple mind. turns me inside out in a way i can't define. it's a long way to fall when you find out how it never was.

patti smith | 8.7+8 | fillmore : if you have not seen her, you must. a legend. last time i saw her she began the show by reading a poem. it looked like it would be a quiet intellectual adventure. the crowd clapped (it was a great poem) then she took a drink of water as the band began playing 'paint it black' she turned to the audience + spewed a mouthful of water lackadaisically. i knew it was going to be a beautiful evening. 'in heart, i'm a moslem. in heart i'm an american. in heart i am a moslem. in heart i am an american artist. + i have no guilt.'

tricky | 8.9 | fillmore : back so soon.

angelique kidjo | 8.10 | fillmore

tool | 8.10+11 | berkeley comm. theater : metal or punk?

go-go's | 8.21 | warfield : no joke. i love them

the exploited | 8.25 | maritime : brit political thrash.

oscar peterson | 8.28 - 9.2 | yoshi's : jazz piano great. his jobim renditions, well... butter.

flogging molly w/ rev. horton heat | 9.1 | fillmore : i used to see rev. h h at the hole in the wall in austin (you could get in for only a buck if you said you were just going to play pool in back - a pitcher of shiner later we'd sneak a table in the front room). they were rockabilly straight ahead. then i saw them at some street thing + they had a huge crowd with crowd surfers + a mosh pit.

nick cave | 9.20+21 | warfield : gripping visceral baritone cabaret goth blues punk. + the mercy seat is waiting + i think my head is smoking.
